A little history
More than 40 years ago, two school friends decided to enter the insurance industry with the aim of starting their own insurance broking business. By the time they were 21, after spending some time at two well-known insurance companies, Colin Clarke and Malcolm Roxburgh achieved that goal and the first Clarke Roxburgh office opened in Malvern, Worcestershire in 1966.
By offering quality, independent advice, personal service and competitive premiums, and being prepared to tackle difficult matters others shied away from, they met with an enthusiastic reception. And that soon led to further offices in surrounding towns.
When the founders retired in 1998, the company was taken over by five members of the management team. Building on and staying true to its original principles, Clarke Roxburgh is now the biggest independently-owned, Midlands-based insurance broker and one of the UK’s largest.
Our Board of Directors
Jim Willis, Chairman
Jim has over 30 years experience in the insurance industry, spending time with a leading insurance company before joining Clarke Roxburgh in 1979 to set up the Redditch operation.
A Board Director since 1996, Jim became chairman in 1998. He is an associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Mike Hayward, Chief Executive
Mike worked as a management accountant for a major FMCG company before joining
Clarke Roxburgh in 1987 and becoming Group Accountant in 1988. Appointed to the
Board of Directors in 1996, Mike subsequently led the MBO in 1998 and took on the
position of Managing Director. In 2006 Mike became Chief Executive.
Simon Egerton, Managing Director, Commercial Clients
Simon began his insurance career with Clarke Roxburgh in 1976 taking a break in 1979 to see the industry from an insurance company perspective. He returned to broking in 1981 and became a Director of Clarke Roxburgh in 1988. Since 1998 Simon has led the Commercial Business. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a local magistrate.
Tim Andrews, Managing Director, Personal Clients
Tim has over 30 years experience in the insurance broking sector and was appointed a Director of Clarke Roxburgh in 1982. Since 1998 Tim has led the Personal Business, significantly expanding the operation to include the partnerships business. Tim is an associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Ross Carter, Operations Director
Ross began his financial services career in 1976 with one of the UK’s leading banks. After
five years as a management consultant, he joined Clarke Roxburgh in 1997 becoming Financial Planning Managing Director following the MBO. In 2006 Ross became Operations Director.
Ross is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, the Chartered Insurance
Institute and an MBA.
